Terms of Service
Last updated: 13 June 2026
These terms govern your use of Lacuna, a reproducibility-focused academic analysis platform. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them.
1. The service
Lacuna runs bibliometric, computational-thematic and meta-analytic methods on data you provide, and produces citation-bearing, reproducible reports. Methods execute real statistical engines (e.g. metafor); results are derived from your data, not fabricated.
2. Your account
- You are responsible for your credentials and for activity under your account.
- You must provide a valid e-mail address and keep it current.
- You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account; deletion is permanent.
3. Your data and content
You retain all rights to the corpora, effect tables and other data you upload. You grant Lacuna only the limited rights needed to store, clean and analyse that data to provide the service. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload and analyse it, and for complying with the terms of any third-party data sources.
4. Acceptable use
- Do not upload unlawful content or data you are not authorised to use.
- Do not attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to the service.
- Automated API access must respect the documented rate limits and the keyless providers’ (OpenAlex, Crossref) polite-pool policies.
5. Availability and changes
The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may change, suspend or discontinue features, and we will give reasonable notice of material changes to these terms. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
6. Liability
Lacuna assists with analysis but does not replace your scholarly judgement; you are responsible for how you interpret and report results. To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties and our liability is limited.
